The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has announced the appointment of (Ret) Lt. Gen. Raymundo Ferrer as its executive director and Civil Defense Administrator (CDA).
In a statement, NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Cashean Timbal said Ferrer’s oath to the office was administered by the Defense officer-in-charge, Senior Undersecretary Jose Faustino Jr., at the Department of National Defense (DND) central office in Quezon City.
Timbal said Ferrer will be bringing his vast experience in emergency operations as a veteran soldier and a management specialist.
Succeeding Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad, Ferrer will be managing the impact of the Abra earthquake starting today.
“He will hit the ground running and attend to all the functions of a civil defense administrator and as the executive director of the NDRRMC,” Timbal added.
Ferrer is a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class 1977 and a former commander of the Western Mindanao Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Meanwhile, the Office of Civil Defence (OCD) expressed gratitude for Jalad’s contribution to improving the disaster management unit of the country.
“We also like to thank our dear CDA Emeritus, Undersecretary Ricardo Jalad for his memorable and triumphant six years of leadership to OCD,” Timbal said.
Timbal noted that through Jalad’s “guiding hand tempered by compassionate and exemplary wisdom, the OCD was able to advance as the country’s premier disaster management agency.”
The OCD serves as one of the bureaus under the DND.
