The 2022 Korean Film Festival is back at SM cinemas from 11 to 14 August. Seven films, released in 2020 and 2021 amid the pandemic, will be screened at SM Mall of Asia, SM Megamall, SM City North Edsa, SM City Grand Central and SM Southmall.
All screenings are for free and on a first-come, first-served basis.
A joint project of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines and SM Cinema, the event premieres at SM Aura Premier on 10 August 10 with Hong Won-chan, director of the festival’s opening film, Deliver Us from Evil.
Joining him is Korean director Lee Woo-jung, whose recent film, Snowball, is included in the festival lineup.
Deliver Us from Evil is an action/drama about an assassin who goes to Thailand to solve a kidnapping case linked to him, but is hunted by a man whose sibling he had killed.
Snowball, is a youth drama about a girl who runs away from home with her friends. The experience tests their friendship.
Also in the festival lineup are Ryu Seung-wan’s action-drama Escape from Mogadishu; Lee Jang-hoon’s Miracle: Letters to the President; Hong Sang-soo’s The Novelist’s Film; Park Jiwan’s drama-mystery The Day I Died: Unclosed Case; and Jo Eun-ji’s comedy-romance Perhaps Love.
The festival — which is also a partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), Korean Film Council, Korean Tourism Organization (KTO) Manila Office — aims to help moviegoers build new experiences, create bonds and discover new goals.
