Students from two city-run universities, namely Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) and Unibersidad de Manila (UdM), as well as those in senior high school (SHS) will be receiving their monthly cash allowance after Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna earlier signed the payroll.
Lacuna said the cash aid the city released covers the monthly allowance of SHS students from all the city’s public high schools and those who are studying at PLM and UdM, headed by Felma Tria.
“Each PLM and UdM student will receive P1,000 and each SHS student will receive P500 per month for the months of May and June,” she said.
The grant of financial aid is part of the city government’s social amelioration program for which a budget had been allotted.
The Manila mayor said the financial assistance is aimed not only to help alleviate the financial difficulties of the students and their families, but more so to encourage them to study hard to get a degree and find a job that will help them rise from poverty.
“You can be assured that your city government will continue to find ways to make easier the lives of every Manileño family. Our only request to all the beneficiaries is to work harder and persevere to finish their education. Make it a habit to listen to your teachers and follow the advice of your parents,” Lacuna stressed.
