9 August not a special holiday

Press Secretary Trixie Cruz Angeles on Thursday denied posts circulating on social media that Malacañang has declared 9 August 2022 as a special non-working holiday in honor of former president Fidel V. Ramos.

“Let’s not believe the posts circulating on Facebook and other social media platforms that declare 9 August 2022 as a special non-working holiday,” Angeles said in Filipino.

“This is not true and there is no announcement or proclamation about it.”

An infographic released by her office said that “there’s no announcement or proclamation released by the Office of the President and the Executive Secretary” on the purported holiday.

Angeles cautioned the public to be more discerning about what they read online.

“Let’s be critical of what we read and watch on social media,” she advised the public.

Angeles earlier announced that Ramos will be accorded a state funeral with full military honors on 9 August.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has declared 31 July to 9 August a period of national mourning over the passing of the former Philippine leader.
