Multiverse anime films out 7 oct., ending depends on viewing order

An interesting movie release day will take place in Japan on 7 October, following the simultaneous release of two multiverse anime romance films with endings that will depend on which one the viewers will watch first.

“To All of You That I Loved” and “To the Only One Who Loved You, Me” are based on Japanese author Yomoji Otono’s light novels of the same name, which, surprisingly, were also published on the same day in 2016.

Based on a report by lifestyle magazine GirlStyle, Otono said that this never-before-seen parallel universe movie concept was born out of his high school fantasy, saying that the viewer’s choice on which film to watch first, which can only be made once, will “greatly change the way they feel” about the movies.

“To All of You That I Loved” follows Koyomi Takasaki, a university student who lacks social skills and is very studious. He lives with his mother after his parents’ divorce. One day, one of his classmates approaches him and reveals that she is from an alternate universe where Koyomi and herself are lovers.

The second film, “To The Only One Who Loved You, Me” is set in a different universe where Koyomi Hidaka lives with his father after his parents’ divorce. One day in a research institute where his father works, Koyomi meets a girl and they start to develop feelings for each other.

However, Koyomi and the girl’s parents remarry, so the two attempt to escape into a parallel universe where they can be together.

The official trailer for the films was released in May.

To add to the thrill, the movies are being animated by two different studios namely Bakken Record and TMS Entertainment who also animated some popular series such as Dr. Stone and Fruits Basket.

Unfortunately, reports said the movies will be released in Japanese theaters only. But who knows?
