Senator Christopher “Bong” Go welcomed over the weekend the enactment of a bill declaring every second Thursday of January as National Baptist Day, a special working holiday.
“Our Baptist brothers and sisters have always sought to express God’s love through their amicability,” said Go, one of the authors of Republic Act 11897 which lapsed into law last 23 July.
The law provides that the State shall recognize all Baptists for their evangelical missions that significantly contribute to nation-building.
He recognized that the Baptist community has been establishing Christian schools that focus on academic excellence while building the character of their students.
The senator expressed confidence that Baptist churches would continue to spread the word of God and serve the Filipino people, especially those who are most disadvantaged.
Go stressed that the more than 120 years of service of Baptists in the Philippines deserve due recognition.
