Group to enforce Filipino Brand of Service Excellence

The Department of Tourism (DoT) has partnered with various agencies to enforce the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence (FBSE) in all tourist destinations in the country to prevent a repeat of the Virgin Island’ overpricing issue’ in Panglao, Bohol.

Tapped by DoT to be its partner in its goal to strengthen the capacity of micro-entrepreneurs such as food vendors to provide quality tourism services are the Department of Trade and Industry,

Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Agriculture, and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, which shall comprise the said technical working group formed for the FBSE program.

The FBSE will promote the best qualities, and positive values of Filipino hospitality envisioned to enhance and uplift the quality of tourism services in the country and foster excellent service to tourists as part of distinct Filipino brand.

The service excellence becomes a regional brand and a holistic national identity. Its training to tourism stakeholders will cover topics such as Service Excellence, Understanding and Engaging Customers, and Complaints Handling.

“We are facilitating this interagency TWG to commence discussions on the implementation of standards to ensure high quality of tourism services which include regulations on accommodations, services, and pricing standards,” said Tourism Secretary Maria Christina Frasco.

Further, she stressed that her department could help improve the standards of treating tourists in all destinations by facilitating training under the FBSE Program.

With three unique modules, the tourism program aims to instill a culture of service excellence among tourism stakeholders and raise the quality-of-service standards among the workforce in critical tourism and service sectors.

“If we can come together to agree on certain standards that our destinations would comply with, then this would redound to the overall improvement of our tourism industry because, in the end, tourists will be delighted with every destination that they visit, and keep coming back,” Frasco added.
