At least 17 barangays were flooded due to the low-pressure area and southwest monsoon (habagat) that struck the Central Visayas region.
Based on latest data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), some 15 villages in Cebu City were submerged in knee-deep flooding following the heavy downpour since Thursday night.
Cebu City’s affected families rose to 277 or 1,214 persons, while 11 families or 39 individuals were affected in two barangays in Bohol.
The NDRRMC also reported that five major roads in the region are not passable at press time, two in Cebu City namely, Natalio B. Bacalso Avenue in Kinasang-an, Barangay Pardo, and the central highway in Sitio Langub, Barangay Buhisan.
The A.S. Fortuna road connecting Mandaue City and Banila, Cebu City, the as A. C. Cortes Avenue and the Highway Maguikay in Mandaue City were also not passable.
Minor landslides were also reported in Cebu city’s mountainous barangays since Thursday, the worst of which was reported in El Garahe in Barangay Busay early on Saturday morning.
NDRRMC said 13 houses were totally destroyed and seven were partially damaged.
The city also experienced a power outage but it was already restored. No death has so far been recorded.
