MECO assists Pinoys amid Taiwan tension

To take up evacuation strategies in case the US-China dispute worsens, a coalition of Filipino groups in Taiwan sought a meeting with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) to be held today, one of the coalition’s members said.

Although things are “normal” in Taiwan at the moment, according to Mercedita Kuan, secretary-general of Filcom Taiwan Northern, she said anxiety still pervades the country.

“We have anxieties that’s why we will have a Zoom meeting with MECO (Manila Economic and Cultural Office)… On how we will evacuate ourselves in case there is really (an escalation of) China’s threat on Taiwan,” Kuan said.
