Serena Williams is quitting tennis and devoting time to a business venture and raising a family.
In Vogue’s September issue cover story, Williams herself wrote: “Maybe the best word to describe what I’m up to is evolution. I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me.
“A few years ago I quietly started Serena Ventures, a venture capital firm. Soon after that, I started a family. I want to grow that family.”
At age 40, she has been singles world No. 1 by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) for 319 weeks, including a joint-record 186 consecutive weeks, and finished as the year-end No. 1 five times.
She has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles.
