Airport safety, security MIAA’s concern

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) will start focusing on Safety and Security at the four terminals of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

MIAA General Manager Cesar Chiong said he has already requested a briefing on safety and security from the two area managers because this is the most important for the ongoing US-TSA assistance evaluation.

According to Chiong, the evaluation started last 11 August and will run until Friday, 19 August based on their meeting with the Airlines, Cargo Companies, USA-TSA, officials from the US Embassy and OTS where they discussed the schedules and scoops of their inspections.

GM Chiong said the US-TSA evaluation result will be released on 19 August after the one week inspection and survey that they will conduct to all NAIA terminals.

During Chiong’s inspection of NAIA terminals along with officials from the Department of Transportation (DoTr), he noted the lack of lighting in the departure area at NAIA Terminal 2.

He said it is also necessary to improve the air-conditioning in other terminals because the expected influx of travelers because of the more relaxed travel restrictions of the local government units.

It is also necessary to have strong WiFi that can be accessed by the passengers when they are in the airport, especially for the arriving foreign travelers in NAIA.

GM Chiong emphasized that he wants all transactions at the NAIA to be transparent under his leadership and he will do everything, with the help of DoTr Secretary Jaime Bautista, to maintain the international standard of our airport at NAIA.
