Chery Tiggo releases seven players

With Chery Tiggo looking to improve from its disappointing finishes in the last two conferences, the Crossovers made a huge revamp in its lineup ahead of the next Premier Volleyball League tournament.

Seven players including veteran Maika Ortiz have been released by the Chery Tiggo management, the team announced on Tuesday.

Also receiving the boot were middles Rachel Austero and Joy Dacoron, Arriane Layug, Elaine Kasilag, Justine Dorog and Julia Angeles.

Crossovers head coach Clarence Esteban said that they have to make the big decision to form a competitive team.

“We are rebuilding the team in a way that we think will help us,” Esteban said.

The Crossovers behind Japan-based Jaja Santiago and Dindin Santiago-Manabat ruled the inaugural Open Conference of the country’s first and only professional volleyball league last year.

From there the team went south.

Esteban did not disclose the names of players they are wooing to join the team.

“We already have players in mind. We won’t release players if we haven’t recruited already. Most of players came from the collegiate ranks so we have to work on them for them to reach the pro level of volleyball,” he said.

The Crossovers finished last in the seven-team PVL Invitational Conference with a 1-5 win-loss record.

The PVL Reinforced Conference is set to begin on 8 October.
