Tacloban sting ops yield P1.3M shabu

TACLOBAN CITY — Operatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 8 and the Tacloban City Police Office-City Drug Enforcement Unit seized illegal drugs worth P1.3 million following a sting operation here.

Authorities raided a salon and its adjacent eatery suspected to be a drug den and recovered at least 200 grams of suspected shabu past midnight on Thursday — the biggest haul of illegal drugs in the city this year.

The operation also saw the arrest of four individuals identified as Rey Marck Macawile, alias “Verna,” Jackie Morales, Sherwin Mark Troyo, and Jay-r Ramilo Aco. Macawile was the owner of the salon and eatery where the illegal drugs were recovered.

The primary suspect is also believed to be regarded as a high-value target for drug dealing and a drug den maintainer.

According to PDEA city officer Novemar Pinanonang, Macawile has been placed under surveillance after they received reports from civilians regarding his suspicious activities.

The four were detained at the PDEA detention facility while awaiting the filing of cases in court for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Police city director PCol. Michael Palermo commended the police operatives for the successful operation and emphasized its commitment to the anti-illegal campaign of the Philippine National Police.
