BARMM eyes 2025 polls preparations

Discussions to improve the delivery of services in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and preparation for the 2025 regional elections have been cascaded, according to the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity on Monday.

Fast-tracking the passage of the BARMM’s remaining regional codes within this year is among the highlights of agenda tackled in previous meeting attended by OPAPRU Secretary Carlito Galvez and Moro Islamic Liberation Front chairperson and BARMM interim chief Ahod Ebrahim in Cotabato City earlier this month.

The remaining priority codes on local government, revenue, and Indigenous Peoples are expected to be passed before the end of the three-year extended transition period in 2025.

The BARMM’s first regular election has been reset from May 2023 to May 2025, after former President Rodrgio Duterte signed the Republic Act 11593, which moves the date of the BARMM parliamentary and regional elections synchronized with the next midterm elections.

The rescheduling of the BARMM elections sought to be beneficial to completing the transitional programs and regional projects that were hampered by the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.

This also paved the way for the parliamentary members of the Transition Authority to continue serving as the BARMM interim government.

It likewise serves as a provisional law-making body of the BARMM that is currently undertaking the completion of transition phase.
