Superal rebounds with 5 birdies

Princess Superal bounced back from a so-so start to easily make the cut in the Thailand Mixed Championship at the Thana City Country Club in Thailand Friday.

The 25-year-old Filipina, who made only 2 points Thursday, collected five birdies and did not make a single bogey to submit 10 points after two rounds.

The tournament featuring male and female pros is played under Stableford which awards 8 points for an albatross, 5 points for eagle, 2 points for birdie, 0 for par, -1 for bogey and -2 for double bogey and worse.

Superal is six points behind clubhouse leader Atiruj Winaicharoenchai who scored 9 points.

Meanwhile, the Philippines slipped 15 notches to joint 26th after soaring to 11-over par 153 in the second round of the 29th Women’s World Amateur Championship in France Thursday.

The Filipinas struggled to save par with Mikhaela Fortuna producing the best score for the second straight day — a 3-over-par 75 that placed her in a share of 36th in the individual category.

Fortuna made three birdies against four bogeys and a double bogey.

Mafy Singson counted for the team with a 78 while Lois Kaye Go slumped to an 82.

Only the top two scores count for the team each round.

The individual race is paced by Swede Meja Ortengren on 6-under after a 68.

Chinese-Taipei’s Hsin-Chun Liao was second on 5-under following a 69.
