Bong Go files bill to protect environment

Sen. Bong Go filed Senate Bill No. 1189 which seeks to establish a national framework for the mandatory insurance coverage of Environmentally Critical Projects.

“Proteksyunan natin ang kinabukasan ng ating bansa. Environmental protection must be prioritized to protect our future,” he said.

The lawmaker noted that despite existing measures to protect the environment, there have been various instances of man-made environmental damage to the country, such as the Marcopper mining disaster in Marinduque and illegal logging in Cagayan Valley that led to massive flooding when Typhoon “Ulysses” hit the region.

His proposed measure shall guarantee sufficient funding coverage for the restoration and compensation for adverse environmental consequences which include damage to health and property, and costs for environmental rehabilitation, remediation, cleanup, and other environmental impairments arising from man-made incidents
