Pandemic pangs inspire a bill in Congress for the institution of a food bank to save for the rainy days.
Latched on the National Zero Food Waste Scheme, Rep. Len Alonte’s HB 3692 lobbies curbing every municipality’s food waste through banks that process surplus.
The measure would mandate the adoption of food-related waste-reduction strategy for businesses and governments, steps for the distribution of edible food surplus and training of sanitary inspectors.
It seeks to expand the National Nutrition Council’s functions, including the provision of technical assistance to socially driven food banks in the purchase of surplus from food businesses.
