France to help Phl Army modernization

The French government is willing to assist the Philippine Army in its acquisition of modern defense equipment, an officer of the Directorate General of Armaments said.

The French’ commitment comes after the Asia-Pacific Director of France’s DGA, Général de brigade (Brigadier General) Caroline Salahun, rendered a courtesy call to Army Vice Commander MGen. Camilo Ligayo last 15 Sept., at the PA headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

In a press statement Saturday, PA spokesperson Col. Xerxes Trinidad said both officials reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Philippine-France defense relations.

Among the discussed topics were the PA’s upgrading program and its acquisition of modern military equipment.

During the meeting, Ligayo noted that the PA is currently developing its combat engineer, air defense, and improving aviation capabilities.

Meanwhile, Salahun highlighted the possible assistance that the French government can provide to PA, tackling the need to consider market research in the framework of the technical invention within the context of PA’s modernization.

For his part, Genot said the French government is ready “to help PA acquire modern defense equipment” highlighting the reliability of French military equipment during combat operations.

DGA is France’s defense procurement and technology agency responsible for the program management, development, and purchase of weapon systems for the French military.
