Due to the expected landfall of Super Typhoon “Karding” and Metro Manila placed under signal No. 3, the scheduled quadruple-header of the Shakey’s Super League 2022 Collegiate Pre-season Championship on Sunday has been postponed and will be moved to a later date.
“The organizers decided to cancel today’s games, Sept. 25, Sunday, at Rizal Memorial Coliseum due to Super Typhoon Karding that is expected to make landfall today,” league organizers, Athletic Events and Sports Management, Inc. (ACES), announced in a statement.
“On behalf of the organizers, thank you for your understanding and support. Stay safe everyone.”
Matches for October 1 and 2 will be adjusted to accommodate the postponed September 25 games.
Tickets for the September 25 playdate will be honored on the new schedule.
Affected games are the Pool D clash between Letran and College of St. Benilde; the Pool B pairings of Emilio Aguinaldo College against Adamson University and the University of Sto. Tomas against Lyceum of the Philippines University as well as the University of the Philippines and Mapua University Pool A showdown.
Meanwhile, a pair of thrilling five-setters capped the opening day of the tournament Saturday night.
Far Eastern University came back from a 1-2 match deficit to pull off an upset over reigning National Collegiate Athletic Association champion College of St. Benilde, 25-20, 24-26, 19-25, 25-22, 15-11, in Pool D.
Protecting a slim 12-11 lead in the fifth set, the Lady Tamaraws finished off the Lady Blazers behind Mitzi Panangin’s power tip followed by an off the block kill by Chenie Tagaod with rookie Barbie Jamili closing the match with a service winner to give former FEU star setter Tina Salak a fitting welcome on her coaching debut.
Eya Laure, on the other hand, unleashed a salvo of hits in the closing stretch to power UST to a marathon 25-20, 27-29, 15-25, 29-27, 15-10 victory over Adamson University in a match that started late Saturday and ended early Sunday.
