Chery Tiggo parades Montenegrin spiker

Rebuilding Chery Tiggo brought in a prolific scorer in Jelena Cvijovic as its import in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference set to begin 8 October.

The Crossovers, who are looking to reclaim lost glory after consecutive disappointing outings following its Open Conference conquest last year, formally introduced their Montenegrin outside hitter on their social media account Wednesday night.

The 6-foot-1 spiker is a veteran internationalist who had suited up in different clubs in the European circuit.

Her last campaign was with the SCM U Craiova in Romania.

Cvijovic also played for CSU Medicina Târgu Mureș and ACS Penicilina Iași also in Romania, Turkish club Büyükçekmece BSK, AO Markopoulo and AS Makedones in Greece.

She also saw action for Zrenjanin and Dinamo Pančevo in Serbia and in her native Montenegro for OK Galeb Bar.

Cvijovic will join a squad still creating chemistry after releasing seven players following a dismal last place finish in the Invitational Conference. The Crossovers won only one game in six outings in the mid-season tournament.

Chery Tiggo parted ways with Maika Ortiz, Rachel Austero, Joy Dacoron, Ellaine Kasilag, Justine Dorog, Ariane Layug and Julia Angeles.

Cvijovic is expected to bring the much-needed firepower to help locals Dindin Santiago-Manabat, Mylene Paat, EJ Laure, May Lua Shaya Adorador and setter Jasmine Nabor.

But the road to redemption won’t be easy for the Crossovers as eight other teams have also tapped quality reinforcements.

Petro Gazz, which won the Reinforced Conference title in 2019, acquired the services of American Lindsey Vander Weide, F2 Logistics brought back familiar import American Lindsay Stalzer while PLDT signed Russian Elina Savkina-Samoilenko.

American Tai Bierria is suiting up for Cignal, newcomer Akari has Dominican Republic national team veteran Prisilla Rivera, UAI-Army is backed by Canadian spiker Laura Condotta, Creamline is banking on Turkish Yeliz Basa while Choco Mucho is bannered by Uzbek-Azerbaijani outside hitter Odina Aliyeva.
