Velvet above ground

Velvet has always had that love-hate relationship among people in fashion. It’s either one will not be caught dead wearing it as it could be better off as fabric better relegated to furniture or cushion. Or, one can get over that snobbery and consider the textile as the rage of the 70s — when flamboyance had a bedazzling spot in the annals of disco-balled fashion history. Think of fashion icon Bianca Jagger in velvet bell bottoms and Hugh Hefner smoking his pipe in a velvet robe.

Fast forward to the present and the velvet vibe is back on the runway of international Autumn/Winter 2022 shows. Velvet came back with vengeance in the form of sexy gowns and jackets or in boots.
Sensual to the touch and rich in color, velvet heralds the return of luxury alongside picking up where we left off after past two years of quarantine.
