Two to four more tropical cyclones may enter the country this month, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Saturday.
Once inside the Philippine area of responsibility, PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said the names “Maymay, Neneng, Obet and Paeng” will be assigned to these tropical cyclones.
Estareja added these would be the 13th to 16th tropical cyclones that have entered the country since January.
The PAGASA specialist said the forecast is based on the data of a number of tropical cyclones from 1948 to 2017.
Estareja said some tropical cyclones from the Pacific Ocean just enter the Philippine Sea and recurve back to the ocean while others make landfall in the PAR.
Estareja warned the public as there is a high chance that these tropical cyclones expected this month are more likely to make landfall, particularly in Luzon and Visayas.
Extra precautions are advised.
While there’s no expected tropical cyclone to enter PAR for the next three days, Estareja said Metro Manila and the rest of the country will likely experience isolated rains or localized thunderstorms from Sunday to Tuesday next week.
