Lady Bulldogs book 98th straight win

There seems to be no end in sight for National University’s utter dominance in University Athletic Association of the Philippines women’s basketball.

The Lady Bulldogs scored an 89-52 win over the Ateneo Lady Eagles yesterday to keep its streak intact stretching back to 2014.

NU’s latest conquest — its 98th — dating back to almost a decade was accomplished at the University of Santo Tomas Quadricentennial Pavillon.

The Lady Bulldogs had the game all wrapped up after taking a 26-9 first-quarter lead and it all play from there onwards.

“It’s always hard to play a team with such great talent like Ateneo. They got Kacey (De la Rosa), (Jhazmin) Joson and LJ Miranda,” Lady Bulldogs head coach Aris Dimaunahan said.

Ann Pingol led NU with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting alongside four rebounds, four steals, and two assists.

Mikka Cacho and Annick Tiky also put up 13 points apiece as the defending champions now have a 2-0 slate.

De la Rosa had 24 points for Ateneo, which dropped to a 1-1.

Earlier, UST posted a 71-57 victory over De La Salle University behind Eka Soriano’s career-high 28 points.

Soriano shot 9-of-17 from the field while hauling six rebounds and seven assists as the Growling Tigresses join NU on top with identical 2-0 cards.

Nikki Villasin also dropped 13 points for UST while Agatha Bron scored eight points and 10 boards as it braces for an early Season 82 rematch with the Bulldogs.

Fina Tchuido had a double-double game for the Lady Archers, who also dropped to 1-1, with 12 points and 19 rebounds.                  Ivan Suing
