GPS key to holdup suspects’ arrest

Quezon City police arrested four holdup suspects using the global positioning system after the victim’s cell phone was tracked by authorities.

Arrested in Barangay Bagong Pag-Asa were Sander Soriano, 19, porter; Jubair Dicatanongan, 23, pedicab driver and Mar-Mar Abuan, 27, vendor and a woman named Mary Rose Ann Ocampo, 21, jobless.

All stolen items from the victim, a 32-year-old female accountant, were recovered.

Taken from her while on her way home from work Wednesday night was her cellphone, laptop, some jewelry and P10,000 in cash

According to the report, the police immediately tracked down the suspects through the GPS after the victim immediately went to the Quezon City Police District Station 10.

Operatives also recovered a knife during their arrest while the victim positively identified them at the police station.

Two of the four suspects confessed to the crime while the two others said they were sorry for themselves.

Suspects Soriano and Dicatanongan will face charges for robbery holdup under Article 294 of RA 10591 or the comprehensive law on firearms and ammunition while Ocampo and Abuan will be charged with violation of PD 1612 or the anti-fencing law.
