Taylor Swift glows with love as she unveils new album

It’s indeed a love story for Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn.

Swift rarely talked about her private relationship but days before releasing her fifth studio album Midnights, she revealed a special meaning behind the track “Lavender Haze.”

In an Instagram video posted by Swift, she explained that she encountered the phrase “lavender haze” while watching Mad Men, a 2007 American period drama series, which is a commonly used phrase in the 1950s to describe the state of being in love.

“If you were in the lavender haze, then that meant that you were in that all-encompassing love glow,” said the “All Too Well” singer.

She continued: “I thought that was really beautiful. I guess theoretically when you’re in the lavender haze, you’ll do anything to stay there and not let people bring you down off of that cloud. I think a lot of people have to deal with this now, not just like ‘public figures,’ because we live in the era of social media and if the world finds out that you’re in love with somebody, they’re going to weigh in on it.”

“My relationship for six years, we’ve had to dodge weird rumors, tabloid stuff, and we just ignore it. So this song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff,” Swift said referring to her private relationship with actor and songwriter Alwyn.

Despite Swift’s being known for her past relationships, her six years with Alwyn made them one of Hollywood’s most private power couples according to the Brides.

The couple first met during the Met Gala in 2016 and in the same year in October, the two sparked dating rumors after attending Kings of Leon concert. In October 2017, during Swift’s Reputation era, she confirmed that she and Alwyn are dating.

In an interview by Elle with Alwyn in April 2022, the actor discussed his public’s interest with his life, “It’s not really (because I) want to be guarded and private, it’s more a response to something else.”

“We live in a culture that is so increasingly intrusive…The more you give — and frankly, even if you don’t give it — something will be taken,” he said.

Alwyn also co-wrote Swift’s 2020 album, Folklore.

Midnights is set to be released on 21 October with 13 tracks which she described as “the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout (her) life.”
