VP Sara’s first salvo fruitful

Vice President Sara Z. Duterte has already proven herself in her first 100 days in office by strengthening relations with other countries after extensive and constructive meetings with the diplomatic corps and foreign officials.

This, as the Vice President — who is also the Department of Education secretary — marked her 100th day in office on Friday.

Since assuming her post on 1 July, the then-Davao City mayor has already met with the ambassadors from Australia, Italy, Ireland, Vietnam, Laos, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand, the European Union, Qatar, India, and the United States at the Office of the Vice President Central Office and the Department of Education.

Also, within a week, she received a courtesy call from the State Councilor and Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Wang Yi, on 6 July, where both officials discussed education and other priority areas of cooperation between the Philippines and China.

During courtesy calls with the various ambassadors to the Philippines, Duterte discussed bilateral relations between the Philippines and their countries, as well as increasing or exploring future cooperation in education, culture and technology.

The Vice President already covered 20 cities and municipalities, three island visits and one out-of-the-country travel — all in less than 100 days.

Several lawmakers, including House Speaker Martin Romualdez, praised the Vice President for her performance.
