A Cebuano wedding for a noncomformist couple

Like so many of their generation, bride Naomi Ruth Damalerio and groom Pocholo Magale were not solely guided by tradition. Perhaps they were a bit nonconformist but totally independent, for they absolutely knew to the very last detail how they wished to celebrate their big day together.

After a year-long engagement, the wedding was held at the imposing Archdiocesan Shrine of the Sacred Heart Church. Pocholo, dashing in a
two-piece beige suit by Philip Rodriguez, headed to the fully-flower-decked altar with his brother Miguel Luis Magale and caring grandma Fe Magale.

Naomi, resplendent in a corseted lace gown by their favored same dream couturier, radiantly glided solo till halfway down the aisle, where she was joined by her teenage son Matteo Ramirez and her mom Necerata Damalerio.

The solemn rites were officiated by the most Reverend Father Dom Renelius.

The bride’s sisters Ninna Ricci Sulay and Nikki Chongco were matrons of honor.

Meanwhile, the bride’s son, Matteo, and the groom’s best friend Maverick Peñaranda stood as best men.

The entourage was composed of principal sponsors Valentin Mendoza and Esterlita Ompad, Frederick and Jaime Ibay, Myles Siao and Evelyn Ang, Dieter and Brenda Schneider, Michael Miranda and Antoinette Mendoza, Kendrick Sulay and Marie Elizabeth Zanoria, plus Antonio Sulay and Teresita Valera.

After the nuptial Mass, invited guests drove 18 kilometers through the metropolis and crossed the bridge to the island of Mactan to the hideaway gem of a destination — the Tambuli Seaside Resort, an 11-hectare residential vacation community, for cocktails and a dinner banquet.

Brief speeches were delivered by the couples’ best men and matrons of honor, who imparted endearing experiences of years past spent with the newlyweds.

The warm crowd proved the wedding was one they could not afford to miss — a cozy celebration of an unforgettable milestone of two individuals.
