Drink moderately.
That reminder appears at the end of every liquor commercial shown on TV or aired on radio. It also appears on posters promoting alcoholic drinks.
Some drinkers heed the advice. But others don’t — sometimes with bad consequence.
A drunken and shirtless man sprawled down on a road in Legazpi City, Albay. While some vehicles were able to avoid running over him, a speeding SUV did not, a local TV station reported.
Bystanders brought the hit-and-run victim to the hospital. The injured guy was about to be attended to by medical staff but he reportedly disappeared, the report said. The SUV driver was also missing and wanted by the police.
In Misamis Oriental, a man joined a liquor drinking race, GMA Unang Balita reported.
The guy gulped down one long neck of alcohol, emptying the bottle in 20 seconds. He won the contest and the P20,000 prize.
Moments after claiming his prize, the drinking contest winner suddenly collapsed and was rushed to the hospital, Police Major Joann Navarro, spokesperson of Police Regional Office 10, said, according to the report.
Unfortunately, the man soon died possibly due to severe intoxication.
A toxicologist warned that severe intoxication can impair the nervous system and stop it from controling the function of organs leading to death.
