Pasig City bagged this year’s Most Business-Friendly Local Government Unit Award from the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, besting other finalists in the 1A category (cities in Metro Manila).
Mayor Vico Sotto received the plaque from President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in an awarding ceremony during the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s 48th Philippine Business Conference and Expo at the Manila Hotel on Thursday.
“This may be the most fulfilling award we have received in three years because this is not just an award for one person, but in recognition of the success of the city government,” Sotto said.
“We have achieved this through the hard work of various offices and individuals to carry out the reforms towards the good governance we all aspire to,” the mayor added.
Sotto recalled that in 2019 he was invited by the PCCI to a forum where he shared his administration’s commitment towards good governance reforms, zeroing in on the ease of doing business.
“Many of them shared their thoughts, suggestions, and even grievances. We listened and got to work,” Sotto said.
“Three years later, they invited me again, but this time to recognize the city government for its efforts. In three years, we have reduced the number of steps to get permits, established a business one-stop shop for the central business district, entrapped corrupt officials, and so much more,” the young local chief executive added.
Sotto said that doing business in Pasig City will become easier in the coming months.
“Systems and physical improvements in the Office of the Building Official, a new business one-stop-shop for our city’s northern quadrant, continuous capacity building for our personnel, etc.,” he said.
