Over two-thirds of consumers in the Philippines have expressed the belief that companies should prioritize environmental protection over profits, a new report by Sandpiper revealed.
Sandpiper’s 2022 Consumer Expectations Index for Asia-Pacific said that 72 percent of Filipino consumers want private companies to chip in toward ecological conservation.
Of the 6,000 consumers surveyed across 11 markets in the region, 35 percent said governments should do more for the environment.
Consumers in the Philippines (92 percent) ranked the government as the most responsible for solving sustainability issues.
Publicly listed companies ranked second (87 percent), ahead of consumers themselves (85 percent) and media (77 percent).
However, while consumers in the Philippines believe governments are making the strongest contribution to environmental sustainability, they see companies as the greatest underperformers.
Over one in five (21 percent of Filipinos said consumers themselves are contributing to environmental sustainability.
