As the country celebrates Nurses’ Week this month, the Office of the Press Secretary on Monday lauded Filipino nurses around the world for their services and sacrifices, especially at the height of the global pandemic.
“The Office of the Press Secretary sincerely thanks our nurses in the country and in different parts of the world,” the OPS wrote in a social media post.
“The skill and compassion they showed are incomparable, especially when the Covid-19 pandemic came,” it added.
The OPS also encouraged the public to show appreciation to Filipino nurses for their sacrifices.
Nurses’ Week is observed every last week of October under Proclamation No. 539 signed on 17 October 1958.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. promised to raise the profile and improve the working conditions of nurses during his attendance at the 100th-anniversary celebration of the Philippine Nurses Association last month.
He recognized that the current salaries and benefits of nurses in the country will never be enough to compensate for their service.
The Chief Executive also vowed to open more slots for the deployment of nurses abroad while striving to improve domestic opportunities.
He also expressed his support for House Bill 9389 or the New Philippine Nursing Practice Act, seeking to impose additional protection and development of the nursing profession in the country.
