After a two-year hiatus, a barangay in Pasig City has relaunched its “Ayuda sa Basura” program to encourage residents to segregate and recycle their plastic wastes in exchange for rice.
Barangay San Antonio chairman Raymond Lising said the program was started in October 2020 at the height of Covid-19 pandemic.
“Our main goal was to form the habit of our constituents, give them an avenue to segregate wastes, and help save the environment. It (segregation of wastes) starts from home,” Lising said.
The program will be implemented at least once a month.
Aside from rice, the barangay also gives seedlings to residents to encourage them to grow vegetables in their backyards.
