Power consumers in the island of Marinduque may imminently experience rotational brownouts after the National Power Corporation warned Marinduque Electric Cooperative Inc. of possible load shedding activities in the province amid low fuel inventory.
According to Marelco general manager Engr. Gaudencio M. Sol Jr., he has received the advisory from NPC. Thus, he is asking lawmakers to resolve the issue of budget cuts in the power sector.
“We received a letter informing us of the commitment of Petron of delivery with NPC promissory to pay for their arrears… We hope the national government supports NPC’s call for an additional budget due to the fuel price spike,” Sol said.
“The NPC informed us that no fuel deliveries would be made to our two plants and the Board of Directors and Management tried to schedule a meeting with NPC and management on how to resolve this matter,” he added.
The NPC advisory said that beginning 19 October, there would be possible “load shedding” activities done to reduce fuel consumption and stretch available fuel inventory of the Torrijos diesel plant and Power Barge 120.
Marelco distributes power to the municipalities of Boac, Buenavista, Gasan, Mogpog, Sta. Cruz, and Torrijos.
