Abra quake affects 18.4K families

Aftershocks ranging from magnitude 1.4 to 4.8 have totaled about 616 over the past 24 hours Thursday following the magnitude 6.4 Abra earthquakes.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the latest number of aftershocks were recorded as of 7 a.m. Thursday, 128 of which were plotted tremors, and seven were felt in the province and neighboring areas.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council also reported a total of 18,478 families, equivalent to 61,514 persons were affected by the earthquake.

Some 22 families composed of 76 individuals were staying in three activated evacuation centers while 140 families were served outside the evacuation centers at press time.

The number of injured individuals due to the quake rose to 44, with no reported deaths or missing persons.

The NDRRMC said the cost of damage to infrastructure has reached P53,738,000 with 1,821 houses reportedly destroyed in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region.

The national agencies and local government units have distributed relief assistance amounting to P207,988 in the form of financial aid, sleeping kits, assistance to individuals in crisis situations, and family food packs.
