Mandaue flood victims receive needed aid

Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go had his team distribute assistance to more flood victims in Mandaue City, Cebu as he reaffirmed his stance in pushing for a more disaster-resilient nation.

The senator stressed that he is already urging his fellow lawmakers to support the enactment of Senate Bill 193 which will mandate the establishment of safe and clean mandatory evacuation centers in every city, municipality and province.

The proposed measure sets minimum requirements for every evacuation center, such as its location, amenities and operation, among others.

Go’s team, meantime, distributed grocery packs, meals, vitamins, masks, and shirts to 3,565 residents from different barangays who were affected by the flooding due to the heavy rains that caused Butuanon River to overflow.

The senator likewise gave away phablets, bicyles, shoes, and balls for basketball and volleyball to select individuals.

As chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, the lawmaker also informed the beneficiaries that they may obtain medical aid from the government through the Malasakit Center in Eversley Childs Sanitarium and General Hospital in the city.

Initiated in 2018, the Malasakit Centers program was a brainchild of Go and was later institutionalized under Republic Act 11463 which the senator principally authored and sponsored.
