Maguindanao BIFF members yield

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Authorities here reported that three individuals believed to be members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters-Karialan Faction surrendered to the military and turned over their respective firearms to government troops in Radjah Buayan town in Maguindanao del Sur.

Joint Task Force Central commander Maj. Gen. Roy Galido disclose dthat the three BIFF members surrendered to the troops of the 33rd Infantry (Makabayan) Battalion in Barangay Zapakan on Wednesday.

Galido said the insurgents also turned over their respective firearms including a Garand Rifle and two Carbine Rifles.

Lt. Col. Benjamin Cadiente Jr., commanding officer of the 33rd Infantry Battalion, said that during a debriefing, the three admitted they fear for their safety because of the enhanced weapons capabilities of our Armed Forces of the Philippines in Central Mindanao.

“This is one of the reasons why they return to the folds of the government and abandoned their armed struggle,” Cadiente said.

Meanwhile, Galido continued his call on the remaining BIFF members whom he claimed are victims of circumstance and deception.

“Our government is ready to welcome you and give you the necessary help so that you can start a new life,” Galido said.

To date, a total of 178 former members of the BIFF surrendered to the government and have availed of the government program intended for them.
