Small shops get big push

Supporting small entrepreneurs has always been an advocacy of Daily Tribune — publishing stories about the inspiring efforts of Filipino entrepreneurs especially during the early months of the pandemic.

Equally challenged by the times and how to deliver the news given that its print edition is its flagship, the organization deep-dived into its digital transformation by enhancing its digital shows and utilizing its online platforms to further bring the news.

The creative pivot also brought about setting up a humble store called Tindahan in Tarsee — with the publication’s mascot, Tarsee the tarsier, as its jolly shopkeeper.

Back in 2020, Tindahan ni Tarsee was the first online selling platform organized by a media organization that supported the SME cause.

For two years, Tindahan ni Tarsee was held online via Daily Tribune’s Facebook page, TribuneNow on YouTube pushing and selling the products of participating entrepreneurs.

To be sure, as part of its advocacy, all proceeds and profits went to the entrepreneurs. Daily Tribune made sure to give the sellers its full support by featuring their wares in its print and online editions. Not to mention, the merchants were also featured as guests in its digital shows.

Daily Tribune provided the big push to spread the good word about its participating entrepreneurs through the multi-media exposure, which entrepreneurs would normally have to harness by hiring publicists or tapping the services of social media managers.

This year, Daily Tribune is doing it again. This time in a physical space graciously provided for free by Ayala Malls at the Manila Bay on 25 to 27 November. Attracting revenge shoppers and early Christmas shoppers, Tindahan ni Tarsee opened with a festive bang as Daily Tribune once again puts its omnimedia platform to full use in support of its merchants. Not only were the stalls provided for free as part of the organization’s ongoing CSR but bringing about public awareness was placed on the fore via guesting the merchants across the various Daily Tribune digital shows.

That’s walking the talk of the Katribu spirit of community, managing editor Dinah Ventura said: “It takes a village to support our SME and Daily Tribune has consistently committed itself to that advocacy for three years now.

“With the easing of quarantine restrictions, we are honored to feature our merchants in a physical space, finally, where shoppers can fully appreciate some of the best products proudly made by our Filipino artisans and designers along with our partners from the diplomatic community.”

All in the spirit of giving and sharing, Tindahan ni Tarsee wouldn’t be possible as well without its gracious sponsors: Ayala Malls, PCSO, DOOH, Angkas, Home Credit, DTI with Regroe, Dermclinic, and My Bros Mustache by Hive Hotel.
