Comelec: No plans yet for voter registration in Cavite 7th District

With voter registration currently suspended in the seventh legislative district of Cavite ahead of the special congressional elections on 25 February, the Commission on Elections has not discussed the resumption of voter registration activities in the area, said a Comelec official.

“There’s nothing yet on the table because, by operation of the law, our voter registration in the area has been halted on account of an election,” Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco told Daily Tribune.

The poll body is approaching the latter half of its regular voter registration period which was resumed on 12 December last year and is expected to end on 31 January.

Cavite’s 7th District is currently composed of the city of Trece Martires and the municipalities of Amadeo, Indang, and Tanza, with a combined voter population of 355,184, as of August last year.

Four candidates will be vying for the district’s congressional seat vacated by now Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla: his son, incumbent Cavite provincial board member Crispin Diego Remulla; former Trece Martires City mayor Melencio de Sagun Jr.; and independents Jose Angelito Aguinaldo and Michael Angelo Santos.
