Truck driver in fatal mishap served SCO

The National Capital Region west office of the Land Transportation Office has issued a show-cause order against the truck driver involved in a road mishap that resulted in the death of a woman motorcycle back rider in Caloocan City.

LTO-NCR West Regional Director Roque Verzosa III, chief legal officer Atty. Dennis Barrion, and LTO enforcement units served the SCO against the driver whose license to operate a motor vehicle had also been suspended for 90 days.

The driver’s name was withheld during the pendency of the investigation. He was asked to explain why his license should not be permanently revoked.

According to the LTO, the accident happened along Deparo Road, near the corner of De Gracia Street, Barangay 168, Caloocan City, around 7:30 a.m.

The truck driver was detained at Caloocan police substation 9 located at Congressional Road Extension, North Caloocan, facing a complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.

It was not made known by the police whether the motorcycle driver sustained injuries that would make the truck driver also liable for reckless imprudence resulting in serious injury.

LTO officials reminded the public, motorists and pedestrians alike, to be careful when on public roads by strictly following rules and regulations.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old factory worker was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Malabon City before dawn Monday.

Malabon police chief P/Col. Amante Daro identified the suspect as Dave Victor Talastas. A police poseur-buyer was able to buy P200 worth of marijuana leaves for the stash he had with him when arrested.

In all, the suspect yielded 30 grams of marijuana worth P3,600. The suspect will be charged with violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002.
