Simon Ibarra considers himself lucky to have been kept busy with work during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“During the whole covid fiasco, lagi akong may trabaho (I always had work),” the seasoned actor said in a virtual interview.
He played the main antagonist Caesar Augusto in Ang sa Iyo ay Akin (2020) as well as supporting roles in A Soldier’s Heart (2020) and FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano (2021).
“Sa mga actor na mas younger sa akin, i-embrace niyo lang ‘yung character at pag-aralan niyo. Lalabas ‘yan ng natural kasi ginagawa mo ‘yung gusto mo. At kapag ginagawa mo ‘yung gusto mo, hindi ka nagtatrabaho (To young actors, embrace your character and study them. It will come out naturally because you love what you’re doing. And if you love what you’re doing, you’re not really working),” Ibarra said.

Ibarra has a new role, this time as Mayor Zaldy Vallesteros in Mars Ravelo’s Darna. Distraught over his wife’s passing, Vallesteros turns into a toxic parent, blaming his son Noah (Paolo Gumabao) for the tragic incident.
He then makes the lives of other characters a nightmare, especially that of Darna. He also gains superhuman strength.
The other supervillains in the series are Andre (Young JV), Maisha (Dawn Chang), Sigfried (Joshua Colet), Arthur Pineda (Eric Fructuoso), Ishna (Kim Rodriguez), and Ali (Mark Manicad).
Darna airs weeknights at 8 p.m. on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, CineMo, A2Z, and TV5. The ABS-CBN series, produced by JRB Creative Production, is also available on iWantTFC and TFC.
