Slain OFW in Kuwait’s remains arrive in Phl

The remains of the slain overseas Filipino worker Jullebee Ranara arrived at the International Cargo Terminal in Parañaque City at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, 27 January.

Officials of the Department of Migrant Workers, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and Department of Foreign Affairs, along with Senator Raffy Tulfo received the remains of Ranara.

Tulfo, who chairs the Senate Committee on Migrants Workers, said the Kuwaiti government should issue a public apology addressed to the Filipino people following Ranara’s tragic death.

Ranara’s burnt corpse with a smashed skull was recovered by the Kuwaiti police at Salmi, Al-Jarah Governorate on 21 January.

The Philippine embassy earlier confirmed that the suspect in the killing of Ranara had been arrested and detained by the local police.

Ranara was only 35 when she was employed as a household service worker in the Gulf state.

As he talked to the bereaved family, Tulfo said the victim did not mention anything about her bad experience while at work.

Tulfo called out the lack of monitoring of the OFWs by the employment agencies after their deployment process.

“One of the problems why these incidents keep on repeating is the lack of monitoring. There should be constant monitoring on a regular basis. They should look into the conditions of the OFWs,” he said.

Tulfo lamented that most employers and agencies do not follow what is stipulated in the contracts.

The senator said he is eyeing a discussion with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to push possible initiatives that would prevent a repeat of Ranara’s tragic experience for Filipinos working abroad.

Ranara’s body remains, which were shown to the media around 11 p.m., will still undergo autopsy here.

Her burial will be at her family’s residence in Las Piñas City.
