The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority on Monday warned motorists not to park on or block bicycle lanes.
“Bike lanes on some major streets in Metro Manila are for cyclists. Parking of vehicles is not allowed in any part of it to avoid accidents,” the MMDA said in a statement.
The agency said part of its road clearing operations is to catch those who park in the bicycle lanes.
Aside from making bike lanes free from obstruction, the MMDA also plans to widen such lanes under its Active Transport Infrastructure Improvement Program.
The program also aims to widen pedestrian walkways.
The widening of bicycle lanes and sidewalks are in line with the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028 approved by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on 16 December 2022.
