More Filipinos believe things will be better — survey

Almost half of Filipinos today are optimistic that their quality of life will improve in the next 12 months, based on the latest Social Weather Survey.

Conducted from 10 to 14 December 2022, the national survey found that 49 percent of adult Filipinos believe that their quality of life will become better this year.

On the other hand, 37 percent believed it will stay the same while five percent said it will get worse.

The remaining eight percent of the respondents did not give an answer, according to SWS.

The private pollster classified the resulting Net Personal Optimism score of +44 as “excellent.”

“The December 2022 Net Personal Optimism score was four points above the excellent +40 in October 2022 and the highest since the pre-pandemic score of excellent +44 in December 2019,” SWS reported.

The Net Personal Optimism score reached a historic low of -19 in May 2020 amid the Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns.

The figures have been trending back upward to pre-pandemic levels, according to the pollster.

SWS interviewed 1,200 adults using face-to-face interviews nationwide: 300 each in Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.

The sampling error margins are ±2.8 percent for national percentages, and ±5.7 percent each for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
