Padilla bats anew for declaration of Nat’l Hijab Day

Senator Robinhood Padilla is hoping anew for the passage of a proposed measure declaring every 1 February as National Hijab Day in the Philippines.

On World Hijab Day today, Padilla called on the public, whether Muslims or non-Muslims, to rally behind the plight of hijabi women.

Padilla, who chairs the Cultural Committees and Muslim Affairs, led the Hijab Day commemoration program at the Senate on Wednesday.

“Napakasarap na makita ang mga nagsusuot ng hijab, nakangiti at sila ay excited. May Almighty God bless you all (It is very good to see people wearing hijab and smiling and excited. May Almighty God bless you all),” the senator said during the ceremony.

Padilla earlier co-authored Senate Bill 1410 institutionalizing National Hijab Day.

Sana ngayong Congress na ito sa Mataas at Mababang Kapulungan, maipasa na ito (I hope it will be passed by the Senate and House of this Congress),” Padilla said.
