Marikina regains winning touch

Home team Marikina survived ONE4BF, 104-96, in overtime to get back on track in the Ballout Sports Season 2 at the Marikina Sports Center.

Felipe Chavez provided the inspiration while Kyle Tolentino unleashed the devastation in the endgame as they towed the Shoelanders to their third win in four games to keep the solo lead in the NCR Division.

Tolentino, son of team consultant Elvis Tolentino, spearheaded the Shoelanders’ offensive onslaught as he led the scoring parade with 25 points, including four three-point shots.

Chavez, playing with a dislocated nose and a protective mask, added 17 markers as he sparked his team by scoring Marikina’s last six points to force the extra period.

Jason Opiso also had another solid game as the veteran from the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League came away with a double-double performance of 22 points and 12 rebounds.

Also winning were Game Changer Novaliches and M7-RPBY.

Game Changer made it to the win column after three games as it edged Philippine Navy, 87-86, in another cliffhanger.

Rojay Santos knocked in 18 points, including the dagger three-point basket in the last 1:04 of regulation and gave Game Changer some cushion, 87-83.

M7-RPBY also got back on the winning track following its 98-86 win over winless Antipolo.
