Phl, UK armies forge closer ties

The Philippines and the United Kingdom are keen on forging a bilateral agreement for “closer” security ties and improved defense relations.

This was revealed after United Kingdom’s defense attachè to the Philippines, Group Captain Beatrix VH Walcot, rendered an introductory call on Army Vice Commander Brig. Gen. Steve Crespillo at the Philippine Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City over the weekend.

The two officials discussed the improvement of existing security and defense ties between the Philippines and the UK, including the enhancement of their areas of collaboration particularly in pushing military education and training.

Army team cited in UK

The Philippine Army Scout Rangers’ team earlier received a Silver Medal citation at the pre-pandemic Exercise Cambrian Patrol 2019 held in Wales, United Kingdom.

The Ex CP is considered the British Army’s premier patrolling event involving mission-focused and scenario-based exercises geared at enhancing the operational capabilities of various participating units.

In December 2017, the Philippines and the UK signed a memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation which opened exchange training opportunities and improved cybersecurity relations between the two countries.
