The Department of Transportation on Tuesday reaffirmed its commitment to complete the Davao Public Transport Modernization Project or the Davao High Priority Bus System — one of the “high-impact” projects identified by the National Economic Development Authority.
The project aims to significantly improve the commuting experience in Davao City by providing an efficient, safe, comfortable, and reliable mass transport system.
Likewise, it will serve as a precedent for possible replication of High Priority Bus System projects in other parts of the country.
Last week, the DoTr and the City Government of Davao, in partnership with the Asian Development Bank, held a three-day physical consultation mission in Davao City.
The parties also discussed the project’s readiness, financing arrangements, and environmental safeguards at the implementation stage.
As part of the mission, Transportation Undersecretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure Mark Steven Pastor paid a courtesy call on Davao City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte, together with Shuji Kimura from the multinational lending institution.
Duterte likewise expressed his commitment to support the project.
Early this month, NEDA director general Arsenio Balisacan disclosed that the Board approved the DOTr’s request for changes in scope and an increase in cost, and an extension of the implementation period for the Davao project.
