CATARMAN, Northern Samar — An active member of the Philippine Army who is suspected of being involved in gun-running activities in Northern Samar was arrested in an entrapment operation on Friday afternoon, 4 February.
The 34-year old Army corporal, whose name was temporarily withheld, was arrested here for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
The operation was led by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Provincial Field Unit together with Provincial Intelligence Unit, Catarman Municipal Police Station, and First Northern Samar Provincial Mobile Force Company.
Seized from the suspect were one KG9 and two magazines; one M4 rifle and five magazines; one caliber .45 pistol and six magazines; ammunition; P100,000 boodle money; and a marked money worth P1,000.
The soldier is now under the custody of CIDG-NSPFU while criminal complaints for violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Law are being readied for filing in court.
Meantime, provincial director P/Col. Alfredo Tadefa lauded the operating teams for the successful conduct of law enforcement operations saying it reflects the persistent campaign of the PNP in going after those who are involved in illicit activities.
“We cannot tolerate any illegal activities specially involving any of our uniformed personnel. This should also serve as a warning to all our personnel not to engage in this kind of illegal activity,” Tadefa said.
