The Bureau of Immigration thanked the Department of Justice for expediting the local cases of the four Japanese deportees wanted in the Luffy case.
Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said that court delays have been a constant frustration for immigration authorities, and there are many instances wherein they are unable to implement the deportation of a foreign national because of their pending cases here in the Philippines.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said earlier that the department will look into ways to deal with deportations being held off by local cases in the country.
The BI chief added that efforts of the department to push for the immediate resolution of these cases are helpful and that this action would also help them to decongest their facility.
With a capacity of 140 wards, the BI’s facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig, is now sheltering more than 300 deportees.
The BI also disclosed that they intend to deport two more Japanese nationals who have been identified as key suspects in the “Luffy” investigation.
After being exonerated in their local trials in the Philippines, 45-year-old Tomonobu Saito and 38-year-old Yuki Watanabe are scheduled to be deported on Wednesday evening.
