More Phl wind farms eyed

CLARK FREEPORT — Denmark Ambassador to the Philippines Franz-Michael Melbin is urging the government to develop more wind farms in the Philippines in hopes of reducing the number of coal plants in the country, which is commonly used by electric companies in generating electricity here.

During his recent visit of the 13 European Union Ambassadors to Clark and Subic Bay Freeport, Melbin stressed that renewable energy is the “future” and wind farms are certainly cheaper.

The official met with the Central Luzon Media Association Pampanga Chapter led by president Arnel San Pedro, Paulo Gee Santos of CLTV36, and Daniella Sangalang of GNN44 TV at the Marriot Clark during their visit here.

According to ambassador, the Danish government has supported the development of the wind farms in Ilocos Norte, adding that the Danish International Development Agency funded around 87 percent of the project.

“This amounted to $35.4 million, with the remaining 13 percent funded through equity by the project sponsors,” Melbin said.
